My engine recently developed a deep knock that is pretty constant now, quits momentarily, but comes back. Thing is, no change in performance whatsoever. Runs great - just is noisy at idle, or that's when I hear it.
It has earned "knock" rights after all, with 367,440 miles on the original engine, hey, I'm not complaining. Just wonder what it is. I understand high mileage = greater clearance (where?) that apparently affects oil pressure, but ...where? Bearings? Found a set for $89. Seems like a big job.
Has served me well - Minimal maintainance at best - 60 wt. Valvoline Racing oil past 8yrs. Don't anybody laugh now, let's keep it to a low roar...but seriously thinking of going to 90 wt...unless there is 75 or 80.
Only work ever done was replaced the coils about 6 months ago; ditched the water pump/ stupid plastic impellers (designed to fail) with all metal replacement about 6 yrs ago.
Basically just curious what to expect. If it's going to die, I'll park it with dignity she deserves.
Sorry, about the other post - was from my cell - screen blacked out, thought I lost it altogether - didn't know it was posted.
