How do I reset the "service engine soon" for my 325i - United Bimmer Community

My 325i has the "service engine soon" light came on. The car works fine so I don't think it is serious. I tried disconnecting the battery but the light still came on.

I got layed off my job so I can't afford to take it to a dealer or mechanic.

Is there a way to reset it? Or is there an instrument I can buy that I can use to diagnose the problem? I am very technical so I am not afraid of using instruments.

Peake research have a reset tool that I use. Got it on ebay. GL

What is the name of the tool? How does it work? Does it tell you what the problem is or does it just reset it?

Can you give me some more details?

The name is peake research R5 FCX3 it reads fault codes, resets eng. light, resets oil service light. try www.r5tool.com
