1994 318i E36 Electric Window problems

Hi, had this problem for a while and lived with it, but last week it failed in the rain and caused me some problems.

The front electric windows act a bit strangely at times, the main problem is that sometimes when i press the switch to lower the window, it keeps lowering all the way. A year or so ago this happened and it snapped the two plastic slider clips at the bottom of the mechanism, the window also came out of it's channel and tore the rubber guide that goes around the door, meaning that if i lower the window below the tear it will misalign when i raise it up and not close properly. When this happens I have to hold the torn part while slowly raising the window past the tear.

I never replaced the slider clips, I managed to get them to hold and put up with it. Last week though while lowering the window it decided to lower itself right to the bottom, when I tried to raise it I heard the clips break, and the window then went totally out of line. I had to manually ease it up in heavy rain, since then I have not been able to use the window (drivers side)

I've just ordered two new slider clips, but does anyone know what the main problem is? Why does the window continue to lower when I release the switch? If I don't sort this out the new clips will break again next time it happens.

Does anyone know where I can get the rubber guide from?
