Most of the time, on an e36, an airbag light does not indicate any real problem. All it takes is someone unfamiliar with your car to jamb a seat belt tab into the buckle at an odd angle to set the Airbag light. When my first e36 was new, I got three new driver seat belt buckles on warrantee before I figured out that there was nothing wrong with the buckles, other than an over-sensitive design. Voltage spikes and poor batteries can also set phantom codes. I would be lost without my Peake tools.
