Driving back up the mountain today my 325xi coolant light came on. Its done that before only being 8 oz of coolant short so I didn't pay much attention to it. Then the temp gauge starting climbing fast. In the end I limped home, having to stop every mile or two to let it cool down and add water.
I bought this ride about 18 months ago at 98K and it has 112K on it now.
My friend thinks it is the thermostat as once the car started to cool down it would start "burping" when coolant was added. The pressure release gizmo on the thermostat assembly was spewing steam. Am I on the right track? Electric fan was operating.
