So me and my girl saw "Madagascar" last night....(not all that great BTW) and they were actual Previews for movies that said coming at a theater near you Fall 2007/Spring 2008!!!

I was like WUWT?!(What's Up Wit That!!?)

My girl explained that the Movie Association allows a certain amount of movies to come out each weekend like 10 max. And movie producers must bid for designated "hot weekends" to put out their movies...

Memorial Day weekend is the hotest weekend to get your movie premiered since "Shrek 2" made 300 million over a 2 day period 2 years ago on the same holiday weekend.

So now Producers must bid for weekends and if they lose they either get to choose an alternative weekend or bid for the next year that has a free spot on a Memorial Day weekend or another "hot weekend".

She told me she read that all the spots for Memorial Day weekends are booked up until like the Memorial Day weekend in 2009.

But what producers do now if they have money, they'll buy out a spot that is taken by another movie....

I never heard of this or suspected the movie business was so cut throat at that level!
