no-start condition... cost of figuring it out

I have an '88 325is, with about 120x on it.
I gave it to a mechanic, who is big into e30's. He's also not legit, so I thought that his familiarity with the car, and him working under the table would give me good results at a good price.
After two-weeks (i was getting impatient) he finally figured out that the connectors on the fuel-injector harness were corroded, so he cleaned them up, and the car started.
I'm sure he did a lot of work to get to this point, BUT, he wants to charge me 400 big ones.
I think kind of steep, what you?
