Hello, I'm new on here. I have a 03 318i se and recently it has developed a problem of cutting out when I am idling at traffic lights or in heavy traffic etc. Normally it will start a couple of minutes later but the latest time it happened it took an hour or so to start up again. Whilst waiting for it to start I discovered the engine was red hot the bonnet could fry an egg. I took it to a garage; they put it on a diagnostics computer which showed no faults. He spoke to a bloke from the BMW garage who said it sounded like it could be the fuel pump relay or the ecu relay. He changed both but when I got a couple of miles down the road I got a beep and the handbrake parking light came on but instead of red it was orange and also the light between the speedo and the rev counter at the bottom (circle in a triangle) came on. I haven't got a clue what could be up with it.
I also have a rear right taillight or brake light warning light that comes on, which it did before it broke down, I have checked all the bulbs told the same mechanic who tells me he has changed all the bulbs but it is still on. If I turn the lights on however the warning turns off, it stays off even if I turn the lights off but returns the next time I start the car.
