'96 328is heater blower motor died

The heater blower on my daughter's 328is stopped working. Did some searching and found that the final stage resistor is a common fault so I replaced it tonight and...nothing. Fan still does not work. Checked fuses and all related fuses are good. This car has the digital climate control. Apparently the fan gradually died off. It did not stop working all of a sudden. She describes driving with the A/C on and no air being blown and then the blower all of sudden kicking in without warning. Is this a bad blower motor? If so, does anyone know where I could find DIY instructions? How do you access this thing? Hopefully this is not a dismantle the entire dash project. Thanks for any help.
