Unhappy Rear Vibration

I am hoping that someone here can help diagnose my problem. I have a 2003 E46 Diesel automatic which has a nasty rear vibration.

Here is what I can see/feal:
[LIST][*]Major vibration on acceleration, this gets better when car warms up, and disapears when you lift off or slip it out of gear.[*]DSC light comes on when going over the slightest bump.[*]Car feals very loose at the back end and can easily skip out round a bend.[*]I have uneven tyre wear on the rear on one side with inner edge wearing badly.

This is what I have done so far:[LIST][*]New tyres, no difference.[*]Swapped front and rear wheels, no joy.[*]Replaced Bearings, no joy.[*]Replaced shock tops, no joy.[*]Taken it to BMW dealer and numerous garages, no joy.

I really don't know where to go with this now, the last garage suggested a problem with the rear axle and maybe replace the whole thing, this sounds a bit extreme to me, so I was wondering if anyone out there could help.

Please keep any advice fairly non-technical as I am not a mechanic, I am thinking/hoping possibly bushings, but there are I think 5 on the rear so where do I start.

Thanks for any responses.
