When you drop the pan not all of the trans fluid will drain out. The majority of it will still be in the torque converter. There are two ways to get it out, flush it, or take it out drain it and then refill it. No matter what anyone tells you flushing your trans fluid is never, repeat NEVER, a bad idea.
