Replacing valve covers, leaking oil

So i bought a 2000 740i sport back in july...amazing car for how big it is, but i had a mechanic take a quick look at it and my valve covers are very slowly leaking oil. i guess its a known issue?

ive heard things about having to replace the entire valve cover or just the gasket. what shall i do? i found a full walkthrough on e38.org, but im still not sure if i should do gasket or the entire cover. doesnt seem like too much work. probably get it done in one 8 hour day.

i also have to do the belt for the motor...is that a tough one? or just a tensioner shoved down under the motor. ive done belts and valve gaskets before on a datsun, isuzu and a 72' 2002 bimmer, but not on an M62 V8 with no room whatsoever...

any thoughts?

its gunna be the first big project for me. can't wait!
