You're probably correct to speculate that the car won't pull much more north beyond 180 mph.
Regarding your comment on the redline, however, the engine won't necessarily 'blow' as you suggest here once redline is attained.
Below is one official definition of redline.
"Redline refers to the maximum engine speed at which an internal combustion engine or traction motor and its components are designed to operate without causing damage to the components themselves or other parts of the engine."
With proven engineering and advanced, cutting edge powerplants such as those found in current generation BMW's, the car is fully capable of achieving it's peak rpm redline as designed and engineered, and can probably do so without suffering any damage.
This said, hitting over 180 like Andy here is plenty fast enough for me already!
Imagine, that's over three (3) miles traveled per minute at this rate.
