Though I haven't met too many French here in the UK; most of them I have met have been surprisingly friendly to me (as an American). We should be a little more reluctant to judge an entire country of people (which we seem to do quite well) based on the nature of their recent political environment. I really don't enjoy being judged based on the decisions of a certain Cheney-humping ass-clown who happens to run our country. We do seem to be a bit of a joke these days outside of Kansas.
Honestly speaking, most Americans that speak low of French people "usually" have only been to Paris. What people don't realize is that Paris citizens tend to not think too highly of tourists for the simple fact that most of them do not respect the city, therefore they don't show them much respect. Paris attitude is kind of like NY to us..... Again, am not saying all Parisians nor all New-Yorkers treat people wrong, am just saying a large number of them treat tourists badly
