If your whole journey is downhill you wont need any fuel at all! As far as i'm aware a bump start uses no extra fuel unlike using the starter motor. Sorry for being an idiot.
you said it pal, totally stupid bit of advice, "turn off your engine"gotta be one of the most dangerous things you can do, I live in the uk as you can see by my avatar, I drive a 318se and generally get between 40 and 50 to the gallon all it takes is careful use of the gears and a light foot on the gas pedal, Ive just done Halifax to Whitby covered most of the area surrounding Whitby and travelled back to Halifax on £40.00 and still had fuel left in the tank.
You know the situation on our uk roads so you gotta know switching off your engine and coasting downhill is tempting fate.
