If the American auto manufacturers all fold then we should all learn Chinese so we can speak to our new bosses at the call center.
At one point IIRC about 1/5 of US manufacturing jobs were related to the auto industry either directly or indirectly (-like steel) .The trickle down effect at least doubled that in the service side of the economy.
Maybe 5% now? The only reason American manufacturing appears healthy is because some years back the government included burger flippers at the fast food restaurants as being in manufacturing. That inflated the numbers enough to make the Industrial sector look good.
Within 2 years we will have Chinese made cars selling here that will rival the Koreans in Quality and appearance. And in 10 years if not sooner the Chinese and Koreans will have outdone the Japanese in manufacturing very sellable quality cars.
In 10 years your next BMW may have a Chinese origin VIN.
Glad I am retiring now. I can just watch it change from the sideline and not worry about getting run over by it anymore.
