In the depth of the coldest winter my 1987 325 has ever seen, my fan belt started slipping and making a terrible squeaking noise. I originally though it was part of my clutch assembly, because it doesn't squeal all the time, but it's been proven to be the belt (a/c compressor sends it haywire).
This morning on the way to school, the belt slipped a good bit, I smelled something akin to burning rubber, and was thoroughly frightened. I popped the hood and the smell wasn't too prominent, but it was there. The belt itself looks alright, though I obviously couldn't see all of it. How hard is it to replace the belt in an M20? Am I going to need any specific tools? I need the car every day, so I'd like to do this myself instead of giving it to my mechanic for a week.
