A/R is your area: radius ratio. Area being the cross sectional area at the inlet or outlet depending hot or cold side. The radius comes from the measurement from the center of this cross sectional area to the center of the turbo. The larger your area to radius ratio is, the more pwoer you could make, but this will also has the negative effect that if you go too big you'll basically take a lifetime to spool (if you even can).
