A look through one of the slots near the radiator shows a section of the vinyl covering to my hood release cable being split, and whatever is underneath that is showing rust. I'm thinking that I may have to replace, or least degunk and clean, the cable (it's not working smoothly anyway), but I haven't come across a DIY tip on how to do this. From what I can gather just by looking over the situation, a fair degree of disassembly seems to be involved to get at it. Anyone have any tips, suggestions?
On a related note, does anyone know of a way to open the hood if the cable should fail? The E21s had a release screw accessible through the grill with a screwdriver, but I haven't come across a similar feature for the E36s. Thanks.
