I would appreciate people's advice and experience concerning suspension and steering bushings, engine and transmission mounts. My car is a '95 (bought new) with a 5-speed, driving style is gentle to moderate (I do enjoy leaving obnoxious SUV drivers on the verge of tipping over as I apply a few lateral g's to outdistance them on the highway on-ramps, though). My rear shock mounts are fine, and I believe (my third set of) the notorious ball joints are okay as well (I am now at 203,000+ miles). While underneath changing the differential and transmission fluids the other day I noticed much to my surprise that the transmission mounts looked quite good, no visibile cracks or deterioration.
But, what of other items? I have not encountered in my searches much if any discussion of engine mounts, but I assume they go the way of all flesh, errr, rubber. Is that a DIY job? If so, anyone know of a write up?
Rear trailing arm bushings? I have come across discussion of them, and as the rear tires are showing inner edge wear, I suspect those bushings may have something to do with it (time for new sneakers anyway).
Are there other bushings, mounts, rubber components one should check or replace on an 11+ year old car?
Thanks.
