When you put on new pads you have to bed them in, for each pad the process can vary depending on whats recomended by the manufacturer. Usually its at least 50 miles of driving use with no hard/emergency stops.

To get increased performance with the brakes I would again suggest changing to a stainless steel brake line (should increase pedal feel, but may not) and upgrading your brake fluid to some ATE super blue or similar. Also changing to a more agressive pad from a stock compound should bring improvement.
