I see the same thing in computers. I call it the TV/Toaster Syndrome. The general public is so accostumed to buying things like TV's and toasters- you plug them in, and they just work, period. They forget that cars are a set extremely complex subsystems, and it's an ever evolving engineering process.
I for one would like to randomly say something nice about BMW's . . it's the first car I've owned that had the oil filter right in my face when I open the hood, not some ungodly unreachable crevice. Now does anyone ever thank the guy who decided the filter should go right there??
