I honestly don't think that chicken and turkey will rival or equal the price of gas the first time it hits. It may do so if cases become consistent, but not on the first time. Look at beef, prices didn't double when the first case of mad cow was found in the US.
for some odd reason, the general public of the united states seems to trust the government when it comes to food-borne disease control. Like mad-cow for example, the case was found, the government dealt with it publicly to prevent panic, they handled it well, and it went away. Nobody paniced. As long as they do that with Avian flu and handle things well, things should be alright.
