I have a '99 Z3, 2.8 that has recently begun to make a metalic "clunk" as soon as the engine engages. It starts fine and usually only makes this sound when the engine is cold. Could the pinion gear be returning too forcefully? Would like to hear from anyone who may be able to provide the answer. Thanks.
