86 325e transmission

Greetings! I recently acquired an 86 325e sedan. I've done some cosmetic work to it and some mechanical.. all is nearly in good working order. The car has +/- 300k on it but the engine was rebuilt about 15k ago. Question: how long do the auto trans in these models last under highway conditions? From my experience with other vehicles, I'd have to say the tranny is in good shape-- the car's a bit sluggish from a dead stop-- sometimes-- and I think that's more tune-up related than anything. The gears grab, downshift and there's no obvious lag..... I suspect there was a tranny rebuild some time ago along with the engine. However, I don't know how these are engineered (other than very well) in terms of longevity.

Thanks,

kramer
