I think an s50, or s52 318 would work very well as long as you do a lot of work so the car can handle the power, better brakes, suspension, etc.

obviously i would leave it with its original engine until i'm ready to turn it into an absolute beast. remember, coming from someone who's already rebuilt one engine completely, i love the challenge of it. if i wanted something easy i'd do the S52 swap on it... but that wouldn't bea s much fun. I'm looking to see if it would be possible to get an S38 in there.....
